Team JOOLA Shines: APP Indoor Championships and PPA Finals
APP and PPA Finals:
This past weekend, both the APP and PPA tour concluded their tournament seasons. The APP Tour visited Rosemont, IL for the APP Indoor Championships while the PPA Tour visited San Clemente, California for the PPA Finals. While the APP Indoor Championships exhibited a normal tournament format, the PPA Finals featured a new playoff style bracket exclusively featuring the top 10 players of the year.
APP Indoor Championships:
At the APP Indoor Championships, Simone Jardim was back in action alongside new partner, Riley Bohnert in Women’s Doubles. Jardim/Bohnert remained undefeated on the weekend, upending Vivian Glozman and Alix Truong in the semifinals in three sets. In the winner bracket final, they faced another close matchup but came out victorious against the duo of Allison Harris and Mari Humberg. Harris/Humberg fought their way back to the finals, but couldn’t change their result as Jardim/Bohnert again bested them in 3 sets for the gold.
PPA Finals:
Collin Johns – Collin Johns had a strong finish to the year, capturing yet another gold medal in Men’s Doubles. Playing alongside his brother, the duo went undefeated in pool play during the PPA Finals. In the finals, they faced the new partnership of Thomas Wilson and Riley Newman, taking the championship in four sets; 11-2, 4-11, 11-9, 12-10.
Ben Johns –Ben Johns earned yet another Triple Crown to close out the tournament season. In addition to the Men’s Doubles win alongside his brother, Ben also earned gold in Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles. Alongside Anna Leigh Waters in Mixed Doubles, the duo fought back after dropping a match in pool play to Anna Bright and James Ignatowich. In the finals, they defeated Jorja and JW Johnson in three straight games; 11-1, 11-3, 11-4. Next, Johns again fought back after dropping a match to Connor Garnett during pool play of Men’s Singles. The gold medal match was a nail biter as Johns faced Christian Alshon, barely capturing the title in a three-set victory; 11-3, 9-11, 13-11.
Anna Bright – Anna Bright closed out her year at the PPA Finals with a strong finish in Women’s Doubles. Alongside a new partner of Vivienne David, Bright/David upended the duo of Allyce Jones and Etta Wright to make it to the finals. In the finals they faced the undefeated duo of Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau, coming up short 2-11, 5-11, 6-11.
