2025 Gauteng Pickleball Open
Tournament Recap
Date: March 21–23, 2025
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
The atmosphere at South Africa's first major pickleball tournament was top-notch, bringing together 165 players from six African nations—South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania.
Ranging in age from 13 to 70, the participants created a vibrant and inclusive environment that truly showcased the sport's growing appeal across the continent.
Pickleball in South Africa is experiencing rapid growth, with new courts being established monthly in various regions. The momentum continues to build as the country prepares to host its first-ever Provincials and Nationals in June 2025, which will officially introduce a player ranking system and further solidify the sport’s presence in the national athletic landscape.

Shane Goes for the Clean Sweep
Newly signed JOOLA athlete Shane Du Bois made a triumphant return to competition following an intensive training camp in Arizona. Competing with the Perseus Pro IV 14mm paddle, Shane delivered a standout performance, claiming the coveted triple crown—a remarkable feat that highlights both his talent and momentum on the court.
Prior to the event Shane spent two months in Arizona where he had the opportunity to participate in two PPA Pro Qualifiers (Mesa & Tuscon).
His biggest achievement was securing a bronze medal at the Mesa 5.0 Men Open Singles Category. It was an amazing opportunity, and helped Shane's game improve so much in the short period he was in the USA. He is now committed to growing the sport in South Africa.
