Ben Johns Victorious on 1st-ever CBS Broadcast
It was another ground-breaking weekend for pickleball with the sport seeing its first-ever live coverage on national television.
Live action from the PPA Skechers Invitational was broadcast on CBS on Saturday with additional matches airing on CBS Sports on Sunday.
JOOLA Players Allyce Jones and Ben Johns were able to take part in this historic event, with Ben taking home two trophies in the process.
For the men’s doubles event on Saturday, Ben Johns paired up with his brother Collin to face Matt Wright and Riley Newman. Matt and Riley came out aggressive, speeding up the point at first opportunity; however, Ben and Collin held their ground and fought off the repeated attacks with success. They looked dominant on court and were able to close out a championship victory in two games.
On Sunday, Ben went up against Tyson McGuffin in the men’s singles event. Tyson put up quite the fight and started gaining ground early in the 2nd game. However, Ben put on an impressive display of pickleball coming up with incredible gets, powerful drives and amazing precision on his dinks to edge out the win 11-8, 11-9, and secure his second championship title of the weekend.
It was great to see such elite level play being broadcast on national television and we look forward to seeing more coverage in the future!
