Ben Johns Wins Triple Crown in DC
The JTTC hosted the PPA N2grate Open this weekend, the 1st-ever PPA Event held in the DC area; the home town of Team JOOLA’s Ben Johns.
The University of Maryland alum was welcomed by a packed house and put on a display of pickleball mastery that did not disappoint.
Ben battled through the main draws of Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles (with brother Collin Johns) and Mixed Doubles (with Anna Leigh Waters), to land himself a spot in all three finals.
The Mixed Doubles Final took place on Saturday with coverage being aired live on CBS. Ben and Anna battled their way past Lucy Kovalova and Matt Wright to secure the championship trophy, winning the best of 3 game battle in 2 decisive games, 11-5, 11-7.
On Championship Sunday, Ben took the court with Collin to face off against rivals Matt Wright and Riley Newman in a best of 5 game battle. Although Riley and Matt kept it close, Ben and Collin kept their composure and carved out a 3 game victory, 11-6, 14-12, 12-10.
Following the doubles final, Ben took the court again to face off against Jay Devilliers in the Men’s Singles Final. As Jay himself commented on during the match, Ben played lights out and cruised to a quick 11-3, 11-0 win securing himself the triple crown.
Congrats to Ben on an impressive run back in his home town!
Ben played with his signature Hyperion paddle.
