An Award-Worthy Collab

Marty Supreme x JOOLA

When A24's Marty Supreme begins, it’s 1952 and Marty Mauser is stuck selling shoes in his uncle’s cramped store. But table tennis is his escape. The Oscar-nominated film—now on streaming and Blu-ray—tells the story of his pursuit of greatness.

In real life, another table tennis journey also began in 1952: the first JOOLA tables rolled off the production line in Germany. While JOOLA's journey may look a little different than Marty's, they share a common theme: passion for a growing sport.

So, when A24 sought to produce special table tennis products commemorating Marty Supreme, JOOLA was a perfect partner. Check out the Marty Supreme x JOOLA Table Tennis Kit and Table below and read on to learn how table tennis equipment has evolved since the 1950s.

Table Tennis Kit

The Marty Supreme x JOOLA Table Tennis Kit includes two custom rackets (designed using JOOLA's popular Omega racket model) and four custom balls (designed using JOOLA's durable three-star balls) embellished with graphics from the film. Also featured is JOOLA's vintage logo, used from the mid-20th Century until the early 2000s.

Equipment Evolution

In the 1950s, table tennis was a smaller subculture in the US but a popular sport that filled stadiums in Europe. JOOLA's first tables were quickly adopted for competitive play across the continent and grew in popularity throughout the decade.

During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, JOOLA tables became increasingly popular and made major advancements for durability and consistency. JOOLA also introduced several innovative generations of rackets—and their component blades and rubbers

Needless to say, modern rackets are a far cry from the 1950s "hard bat" rackets depicted in Marty Supreme. Below, JOOLA's Matt Heatherington explains the difference.
