Calderano Reaches Historical Number 2 World Ranking Position
Hugo Calderano has taken another step towards greatness, cementing another historical world ranking. The reigning World Cup Champion rose to Number 2 on the latest WTT Men's World Rankings, the highest ever recorded for a player outside of Asia and Europe.
Calderano recently claimed victory at the ITTF-Americas Cup, on a weekend where continental cups captured fans around the globe. The victory ensured a firm hold on the top ranking points within the Pan Am region, as he currently holds both the Championship and Cup titles (with the highest points from one of the two contributing to WR).
Hugo was able to capture the second ranking spot as China's Lin Shidong, with whom the former holds a 2-0 head to head against, slipped to 3rd - off the back of his Asian Cup quarterfinal loss.
While many players from the Americas have held significant positions in the World Rankings - Calderano has pushed the limits even higher. His 2025 World Cup title and World Championship Silver Medal highlighting his ability to win against any player in the world on his day.
Calderano has proved time after time that he is a real and present threat to China's best, a true combination of dazzling power play, mental fortitude at key moments, and tactical prowess on the table.
All focus directs to the ITTF Men's World Cup next month, as the Brazilian great prepares for the title defense, and looks to further cement his name in the history books of the sport.
