PPA Tour Australia: Wong Grabs Double Gold on the Gold Coast

The 2025 PPA Gold Coast Pickleball Slam delivered high-level competition, sunshine, and some serious JOOLA dominance to the courts of Voyager Tennis Club in Tweed Heads right on the border of Queensland and New South Wales.

Players came prepared, fully aware that this was one of the season’s biggest point-earning opportunities and a chance to make a serious move in the overall standings.

Event Recap

Hong Kong’s Hong Kit Wong (Jack) rose to the occasion, stealing the spotlight with double gold, including a gritty singles win over Joseph (Joey) Wild and a powerhouse performance in men’s doubles alongside partner and fellow JOOLA teammate, Kim Eunggwon.

From upsets in the wind to all-out battles for rankings, the Gold Coast Pickleball Slam had it all—and JOOLA came out strong.

Men's Singles
After a hard fought victory by Wong over JOOLA pro Kenta Miyoshi in the semi-final of men’s singles, Wong would go on to secure gold against a formidable opponent in the form of Wild, one of Australia’s top pros (11-8, 11-7).

Men's Doubles
Hong KIt Wong (Jack) and partner Kim Eunggwon grabbed gold against George Wall and Joseph (Joey) Wild. The gold medal in men's doubles meant Wong would finish the tournament without dropping a single game to an opponent! It also shows that the training program in the United States via the UPA Trailblazers program is paying off for Kim Eunggwon.

Eunggwon continues to be one of the most exciting international talents emerging on the PPA Tour in 2025. A former elite table tennis player, Kim brings lightning-fast reflexes, sharp angles, and a fearless net presence to the pickleball court. Representing JOOLA as one of Korea’s top pros, Kim is also participating as a member of the UPA Asia Trailblazer this season.

Honorable mention to JOOLA pro Lucas Pascoe, who made his way to the podium with a men's doubles bronze with partner Mitchell Hargreaves.

Women's Doubles
In the Women’s Gold Medal Match, Kaitlynn Hart and Roos Van Reek delivered a statement performance, defeating Danni-Elle Townsend and Somer Dalla-Bona in a match packed with intensity and redemption.

After being forced to retire early from the gold medal match in New Zealand, Hart and Van Reek came to Tweed Heads with something to prove. Their chemistry, grit, and determination carried them all the way to the top of the podium in one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend.

Mixed Doubles
Roos Van Reek and George Wall took down reigning champs Danni-Elle Townsend and Joey Wild in a thrilling three-game battle: 11-5, 3-11, 11-9.

The match not only delivered fireworks on the court, but also drew one of the biggest crowds of the tournament—fans packed the sidelines to witness what would become a defining moment of the Gold Coast Pickleball Slam.
