Simone Continues Her Streak in Sacramento

The APP Tour resumed tournament play this past week with the APP Sacramento Open. Players had to adjust to a new climate and time zone as most came from the US Open in Naples, Florida.Tournament play begun on Thursday with Men’s and Women’s Singles, both with new faces making the podium. In Men’s Singles, the Johnson brothers, Hunter and Yates, continued their singles streak, making their way into Championship Sunday. In the final matchup, Yates Johnson (2) was able to pull the upset over his brother, Hunter Johnson (1) with a three set victory. Newcomer Brandon Lane battled his way to a bronze, edging out Ryler Deheart 15-10 in the backdraw. In Women’s play, US Open silver medalist, Judit Castillo Gargallo battled her way into Championship Sunday, upsetting the one-seed of Parris Todd and the two-seed of Megan Fudge to make her way to the finals. Megan Fudge battled her way back to a spot on Championship Sunday, beating out Jessica Warren in the bronze medal match. Due to injury, Megan Fudge was unable to play the Championship match, resulting in a silver medal and the first APP Championship for Castillo.Gender doubles ensued on Saturday with some similar duos making the podium. In Men’s Doubles, Pesa Teoni and Andrei Daescu defended their title by fighting their way into Championship Sunday, barely making it past Brendon Long and Stefan Auvergne in the Winner Bracket Finals. Ryler Deheart and Rob Nunnery battled their way through the backdraw, also working their way past Long/Auvergne to secure their spot in the finals. Ultimately, Teoni/Daescu proved to be the better team as they secured their second APP gold medal together, winning 15-7 in the tiebreaker over Deheart/Nunnery. On the Women’s Side, Parris Todd and Simone Jardim continued their undefeated run for the season as they secured their fourth APP gold medal for the year. Bobbi Oshiro and Megan Fudge took silver, edging out Rianna Valdes and Genie Erokhina in the bronze medal match.The weekend concluded with Mixed Doubles, where we again saw the same teams seeing success. Reigning gold medal holders, Susannah Barr and Andrei Daescu defended their title by cruising their way to Championship Sunday where they would face off against Parris Todd and Hunter Johnson, the same final match up as the APP Mesa Open. History repeated itself in the final with Barr/Daescu once again taking home gold.
