Team JOOLA Shines at Minto US Open Pickleball Championships

Team JOOLA had a successful week competing down in Naples, Florida for the Minto US Open Pickleball Championships.

Professional play kicked off at the beginning of the week with Men’s and Women’s Singles. Former US Open Champion, Simone Jardim, decided to try her hand in the singles draw. Jardim battled her way into the semifinals, defeating Megan Fudge in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Jardim faced off against Parris Todd and fell short in straight sets. Todd then went on to claim the singles title after defeating Judit Castillo Gargallo in the finals.

As temperatures and humidity rose, the competition did not slow down as Men’s and Women’s Doubles commenced on Friday. In Men’s Doubles, JOOLA player, Johnny Goldberg teamed up with Erik Forsythe to make a three-match run in the back draw. In Women’s Doubles, the one seed of Simone Jardim and Parris Todd cruised their way into the finals. Milan Rane and Alix Truong made a strong run to the semis before coming up against the Jardim/Todd duo. On the other half of the draw, Bobbi Oshiro and Megan Fudge took down Susannah Barr and Shelby Bates in the semifinals to stake their claim into the Championship Match. After an intense three set match, the team of Jardim/Todd were able to claim the 2023 US Open title. Rane/Truong fought their way back through the back draw to take bronze.

In Senior Pro Women’s Doubles, Angela Simon was able to capture a silver medal alongside partner Eva Welsher.

On Saturday, Simone Jardim continued her hot streak in Mixed Doubles. Jardim paired up with long time pickleballer, Kyle Yates, where they battled their way into the Championship Match. Jardim/Yates were met with the duo of Parris Todd and Hunter Johnson, a team that has played together for the entirety of the year. In the end, the longer partnership proved to be an advantage, as Todd/Johnson won gold in a three-set decision.

In addition to her medals in Women’s and Mixed Doubles, Jardim was also able to grab a gold medal in Split Age Mixed Doubles alongside Jaime Oncins De Oliveira.

In junior play, Chase Brautman grabbed gold in all three junior events: Junior Boys Doubles 15-18, Junior Boys 4.0 Singles 15-18, and Junior Mixed Doubles.

Off the court, JOOLA player Josh Jenkins announced the release of his children’s pickleball book “Pickleball With Pop”.
