Title

JOOLA is seeking for a Controller that would be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, with a primary focus on accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial information and supports strategic decision-making by providing insights and analysis. The Controller will work closely with the CFO, FP&A, and country finance teams to drive financial performance and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

JOOLA creates a variety of equipment, apparel, and accessories for both table tennis and pickleball players, professional and recreational. Location: Rockville, MD 

 

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Financial Reporting & Analysis: 

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP or IFRS. 
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support business decisions. 
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes. 
  • Collaborate with the FP&A team to ensure alignment between financial reporting and budgeting processes. 
  • Prepare and manage financial reports required by banks to comply with loan covenants and other financial obligations. 

Accounting Operations: 

  • Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. 
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets. 
  • Coordinate with the tax team to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and compliance. 

Internal Controls & Compliance: 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. 
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure financial integrity and adherence to policies. 
  • Leverage experience from Big 4 audit, internal controls, or internal audit to enhance the company’s financial governance. 

ERP Systems Support: 

  • Support ERP configuration, upgrades, or implementations to enhance financial operations and reporting. 
  • Work closely with IT and other departments to ensure the ERP system meets the company’s financial needs. 

Strategic Support: 

  • Collaborate with the CFO and other senior leaders to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company’s goals. 
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support the global business expansion, and other strategic initiatives. 

Leadership: 

  • Offer guidance and mentorship to the finance team, encouraging continuous learning and professional development. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to direct reports to ensure the achievement of high-quality work. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred. 
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance 
  • International accounting consolidation experience is highly preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting requirements. 
  • Big 4 audit experience, internal control experience, or internal audit experience is required. 
  • Experience in supporting ERP configuration, upgrades, or implementations. 
  • Experience in the sporting goods or consumer goods industry preferred. 
  • Leadership potential with the ability to build and manage a team in the future. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
