Five Things: JOOLA's Collegiate Partnerships

Five Things: JOOLA's Collegiate Partnerships

JOOLA is proud to sponsor collegiate pickleball clubs across the country, providing apparel, paddles, nets, balls, and more to support the sport’s continued growth.

Get to know the clubs JOOLA currently sponsors, their origin stories, and what a partnership with a leading global pickleball brand means to them.

Club Name: Harvard Pickleball Club

Membership:
Harvard Pickleball Club has a competitive team roster of 46 players, selected from over 200 students who attended tryouts. Beyond the competitive team, the club’s open play outreach has introduced pickleball to over 500 students, offering weekly practice sessions open to the entire Harvard community.

Origin:
Harvard Pickleball Club began with a portable net and a simple idea from two Varsity athletes who wanted to create a fun, inclusive space for sports on campus. Elle Freedman (Class of 2025, Varsity Field Hockey) fell in love with pickleball before college and started playing anywhere she could—from parking lots to squash courts. She teamed up with Cole Cleary (Varsity Football) to form a consistent playing squad, and as interest grew, they applied for official Club Sports recognition. After a rigorous interview process and a year-long trial period, the club was officially recognized in Fall 2023, becoming the first Ivy League pickleball club and the fastest-growing Club Sport at Harvard.

Profile:
This season, the club aims to compete in nationals, including the NCPA Nationals in Las Vegas, and qualify for DUPR Nationals through a regional tournament. They are also focused on hosting a friendly tournament and traveling to compete against Tufts. Looking ahead, they want to ensure that every Competitive Team player has their own paddle, expand alumni outreach, and create a network of Harvard pickleballers across the country. With pickleball’s ability to transcend age and athletic backgrounds, the club hopes to connect alumni and enthusiasts, growing the sport beyond Harvard’s campus.

Partnering with JOOLA has been a game-changer, helping the club achieve its goal of providing every Competitive Team player with a high-quality paddle. Beyond equipment, JOOLA has elevated the team’s skill level, competitiveness, and overall enjoyment of the sport. The partnership has also allowed the club to collaborate on  exciting projects, including custom-designed CityPickle x JOOLA paddles, which have solidified the Harvard Pickleball Club brand. Being part of Team JOOLA means joining an elite group committed to growing the sport at the collegiate level, and the club is grateful for JOOLA’s support in making their vision a reality.

Club Name: Georgia Tech Pickleball Club

Membership:
Georgia Tech’s competitive team consists of 20 players, with 8 women and 12 men. For out-of-state tournaments, they typically travel with 10-12 players, ensuring they have a strong presence at each competition.

Origin:
Georgia Tech previously had a pickleball club, but it mainly functioned as a social group chat where students could coordinate casual games. Over the summer, Eli and Sarah decided to transition the club into a more competitive program. In the fall, they held tryouts for a competitive team, with over 100 students trying out before narrowing it down to 20 players. With a dedicated team in place, they sought a paddle sponsorship, ultimately partnering with JOOLA, which provided paddles, balls, and gear for collegiate tournaments. The team quickly gained recognition after competing in the Florida Super Regional and earning a bid to the Collegiate National Championships. By November, Georgia Tech attended DUPR CNC, bringing an MLP team and two challenger teams. Thanks to JOOLA’s support, the club is now officially recognized by Georgia Tech and DUPR, and they continue to push toward competing at the highest collegiate level.

Profile:
This season, the club is focused on winning the Chattanooga Campus Regional in February and qualifying for nationals. A key goal is to bring the entire team to nationals, ensuring that all players gain valuable experience on the big stage. Looking ahead, they aim to establish themselves as a top club in the South, win a Super Regional, and achieve a Top 25 national ranking. Beyond individual team success, they also want to strengthen their entire roster, developing 3-4 highly competitive teams capable of excelling at the collegiate level.

The JOOLA partnership has been the driving force behind Georgia Tech’s growth, providing exceptional gear and vital support that has helped shape the club’s success. Beyond paddles and equipment, JOOLA has also connected the team with professionals, other collegiate programs, and additional brands, expanding their presence in the pickleball community. Without this partnership, the club wouldn’t be where it is today, and they are excited to continue growing as part of Team JOOLA.

Club Name: Trojan Pickleball Club

Membership:
The Trojan Pickleball club has over 500 general members and 18 competitive tournament players.

Origin:
Trojan Pickleball Club was founded by Jack Longley, a current senior, in the fall of 2023. At the time, newly installed pickleball courts on campus quickly became a hub for both fitness and social engagement. Recognizing the sport’s rapid rise in popularity, Jack took the initiative to formalize the community.

Alongside Teddy Wu, Joseph Chang, and Mufnas Muneer, Jack spearheaded efforts to establish a structured club, bringing together a core group of students as founding members. By Spring 2024, the Trojan Pickleball Club had already competed in its first collegiate tournament. Just one year later, the club has proudly represented USC at tournaments nationwide, securing a Top 16 finish after only three competitions.

Profile: The primary goal for the general side of the Trojan Pickleball Club is to continue fostering a thriving pickleball community on campus while strengthening our engagement with the Los Angeles pickleball scene. On the competitive side, our goal is simple: win it all.

In Fall 2024, we lost access to our campus pickleball courts. In response, our students took action—advocating through student government and launching a petition (change.org petition). Since then, we’ve been collaborating with USC to establish permanent pickleball courts on campus. Securing these courts remains our top priority for the future, alongside winning DUPR Nationals and expanding our network of strategic partners.

JOOLA has been a cornerstone of collegiate pickleball, both through its support of the DUPR Collegiate Tour and as our flagship partner. Their commitment to growing the sport has been evident in everything they do, and their backing has played a crucial role in the success and expansion of our club.

Club Name: Wisconsin Pickleball Club

Membership:
The competitive team currently consists of nearly 45 members, selected from a pool of approximately 200 students who attended tryouts. Beyond the competitive team, interest in the club has grown significantly, with over 1,000 students expressing interest since its inception, reflecting the rapid rise of pickleball on campus.

Origin:
The club was founded in fall 2022 by three siblings who fell in love with pickleball after being introduced to it by their grandpa. Since there was no existing pickleball club at UW-Madison, they decided to start one with the help of a roommate. The club faced early challenges, as it was not officially recognized in time for the fall organization fair, leading to low initial attendance and self-funded court rentals. However, after gaining visibility at the spring 2023 org fair, interest exploded, with over 1,000 students expressing interest. By spring 2024, the club had grown so much that it introduced tryouts to manage competitive play, and by fall 2024, it was officially recognized as a UW-Madison club sport.

Profile:
This season, the club’s goal is to compete in as many regional and national tournaments as possible, including DUPR Regionals, DUPR Collegiate Nationals, and the APP U.S. Collegiate Championships. Long-term, the club aims to convince UW-Madison to build dedicated pickleball courts, as they currently practice on badminton courts that are not ideal for the sport. Additionally, they are working to establish a casual pickleball club for recreational players, hoping to make UW-Madison a top destination for collegiate pickleball.

Partnering with JOOLA has been a game-changer, providing players with top-tier paddles instead of relying on cheap or rented equipment. The sponsorship has also outfitted the team with matching court polos and dresses, creating a unified and professional look at tournaments. This partnership has elevated the club’s quality of play and national recognition, helping them establish themselves as a serious force in collegiate pickleball.

Club Name: Miami Pickleball Club

Membership:
The club has 200 members, with a core group of 50 players who regularly practice three days a week.

Origin:
The club was formed by a group of students who had played pickleball at home and started playing together on campus. As interest grew, their informal games evolved into an official club. Over time, the club expanded rapidly, attracting hundreds of students and solidifying its presence as a key part of the campus sports community.

Profile:
This season, the club is focused on competing in every collegiate national tournament for the second year in a row. Last semester, they won the Purdue DUPR Regional, advanced to Nationals in Dallas, and made it to the quarterfinals, losing to #5 NC State. The club also saw strong finishes in the NCPA qualifier, including first place in women’s doubles and second in mixed doubles. Looking forward, the club is actively working on arranging new pickleball courts on campus to further support its growing community.

The JOOLA partnership has been a huge asset, providing all athletes with new paddles and gear, which has greatly enhanced the overall experience for both new and returning players. Having access to high-quality equipment allows players to compete at a higher level while also making the sport more enjoyable. JOOLA’s support has played a key role in the club’s development, helping it grow from a small group of students into a thriving, competitive program.
