PPA CIBC TEXAS OPEN:

At the PPA Texas Open, the competition was fierce across all categories. With stormy conditions, matches were delayed and played long into the evening. Through the delays and hot temperatures, players battled in fierce matches with some thrilling upsets. For full listing of results, click here. 

Men's Doubles:

In Men's Doubles, Jaume Martinez Vich and Tyson McGuffin faced off against Daniel De la Rosa and Martin Emmrich in a quarterfinal clash. After losing the first game 3-11, Vich and McGuffin mounted a comeback to take the next two games 11-7 and 11-1, advancing to the semifinals. However, their momentum was halted by Dylan Frazier and JW Johnson, who defeated them convincingly 11-3, 11-5. On the other side of the bracket, Matt Wright and Dekel Bar triumphed over the formidable duo of Ben and Collin Johns in a tight match, securing their final spot with scores of 11-7, 11-9. In the championship match, Frazier and Johnson showed their prowess by defeating Wright and Bar 9-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-4, taking home the PPA Texas Open title. Meanwhile, Vich and McGuffin clinched the bronze medal as the Johns brothers withdrew from the match.

Men's Singles:

The Men's Singles competition was equally intense at the PPA Texas Open. In the semifinals, Ben Johns overcame Dylan Frazier in a hard-fought match, winning 13-11, 11-1. Chris Haworth advanced to the finals by defeating Federico Staksrud with scores of 11-6, 11-2. The final saw Johns face a tough challenge from Haworth. After dropping the first game 2-11, Johns rallied to win the next two games 11-3, 11-9, securing the championship. Staksrud claimed the bronze medal by narrowly defeating Frazier 6-11, 11-7, 11-9.

Mixed Doubles:

In Mixed Doubles, Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters were a formidable pair, dominating their semifinal match against Anna Bright and Tyson McGuffin 11-0, 11-8. JW Johnson and Jorja Johnson also had a challenging semifinal, ultimately prevailing over Thomas Wilson and Vivienne David 11-3, 10-12, 11-8. In the final, Johns and Waters continued their dominant form, defeating the Johnson siblings 11-2, 11-7, 11-9 to claim the title. Bright and McGuffin secured the bronze medal by defeating Wilson and David in a competitive match, 11-5, 12-14, 11-3.

Women's Doubles:

The Women's Doubles category saw Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau put on a masterclass. They breezed past Anna Bright and Kate Fahey in the semifinals, winning 11-4, 11-7. Callie Smith and Lucy Kovalova had a tougher time against Etta Wright and Meghan Dizon but managed to win 11-6, 12-10 to reach the finals. In the championship match, Waters and Parenteau were unstoppable, securing a convincing victory over Smith and Kovalova 11-3, 11-3, 11-4. Wright and Dizon took the bronze after defeating Bright and Fahey 11-3, 11-7.

Women's Singles:

In Women's Singles, Salome Devidze delivered a surprising upset in the semifinals by defeating the top-seeded Anna Leigh Waters 8-11, 11-5, 11-7. Lea Jansen also made a remarkable comeback to beat Catherine Parenteau 6-11, 11-8, 11-7 in the other semifinal. The final saw Jansen rise to the occasion, overcoming Devidze 9-11, 11-7, 11-2 to take the title. Parenteau was awarded the bronze medal following Waters' withdrawal from the competition.
