Staksrud Scores Double Gold in Sacramento

PPA Veolia Sacramento Open:

The PPA Sacramento Open was a scorching hot event, both in terms of the weather and the pickleball action. With temperatures soaring, the players brought their A-game to every match, making for some thrilling moments on the court. Federico Staksrud stole the show, snagging titles in both men’s singles and doubles. Meanwhile, Anna Leigh Waters was on fire, dominating in mixed doubles, women’s doubles, and women’s singles. The tournament had it all—intense rallies, clutch performances, and the relentless California sun adding an extra layer of challenge for everyone involved.

Men's Doubles:

At the PPA Sacramento Open, Federico Staksrud and Hayden Patriquin secured their first men’s doubles title in an impressive run. After a hard-fought semifinal where they came back to defeat Riley Newman and Gabe Tardio 6-11, 11-4, 11-8, they faced JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier in the final. Staksrud and Patriquin dominated the final match, winning 11-7, 11-7, 11-0. In the bronze medal match, Tyson McGuffin and Dekel Bar overcame Newman and Tardio with a 2-11, 12-10, 11-6 victory.

Men's Singles:

In the men’s singles event, Federico Staksrud continued his winning streak. He narrowly edged out Quang Duong in the semifinal with a 12-10, 11-4 win. Staksrud was set for a final against JW Johnson, who had beaten Dylan Frazier 11-1, 7-11, 11-7 in his semifinal match. Staksrud claimed the PPA Sacramento Open title by defeating Johnson 11-4, 11-5. In the bronze medal match, Quang Duong triumphed over Dylan Frazier with a convincing 11-7, 11-1 win.

Mixed Doubles:

The mixed doubles event saw Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns showcasing their dominance. They reached the final after beating JW Johnson and Jorja Johnson 11-9, 11-9 in a tightly contested semifinal. Anna Bright and James Ignatowich also made it to the final by defeating Riley Newman and Etta Wright 11-8, 6-11, 11-9. In the final, Waters and Johns dominated Bright and Ignatowich, winning 11-5, 11-9, 11-0. The bronze medal went to JW Johnson and Jorja Johnson, who beat Newman and Wright 11-5, 8-11, 11-8.

Women's Doubles:

In the women’s doubles event, Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau proved to be an unstoppable pair. They cruised through their matches, defeating Chao Yi Wang and Brooke Buckner 11-3, 11-5 in the quarterfinal, and Jorja Johnson and Tyra Black 11-2, 11-5 in the semifinal. In the final, they overpowered Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher with a decisive 11-2, 11-1, 11-5 victory. Tyra Black and Jorja Johnson took the bronze after defeating Parris Todd and Vivienne David 11-2, 11-6.

Women's Singles:

The women’s singles event at the PPA Sacramento Open was highlighted by Anna Leigh Waters' exceptional performance. She advanced to the final by defeating Brooke Buckner 11-0, 11-5 in the semifinal. Catherine Parenteau joined her in the final after beating Dominique Schaefer 11-2, 11-9. Waters clinched the title with an 11-3, 11-4 victory over Parenteau. In the bronze medal match, Brooke Buckner secured a win against Dominique Schaefer, finishing 11-8, 6-11, 11-3.
